How do I keep cat off of furniture?
boogers asked:
My parents gave me this beautiful antique baby grand piano. It’s very close to my heart. My husband’s !@#$%&*! cat jumps on top of it (in the middle of the night when we’re asleep of course) and put claw marks on it. It’s all I can do to keep from killing the cat. How can I keep him off of furniture? He has also peed on this leather chair now twice!! I **** this cat sooooo much but he came with the husband, so I know it’s a losing battle. I have tired that “keep off” spray, but that does diddly-squat. Any ideas?

My cats used that stuff and they stopped.
My cats used that but we used to do that but we used to do that but we used that stuff and they stopped.
Okay, try foil.
Cats **** the sound the foil makes when they step on it. Also, you can try scratch mats (gives slight shock when stepped on). You can buy these from the pet store, but they’re on the expensive side.
Another inexpensive way is to put a blanket that either goes with the furniture in the room or one you don’t really care about. Drape it on the piano, so your cat (oh, I’m sorry, Your HUSBAND’s cat!) will get the idea that he’s not supposed to be there. If he does jump up there he won’t be able to scratch it (or use more than one, nice one on top, old ones on the bottom). If you catch him, give him a stern and firm,” NO!OFF OFF!” He’ll run away. If your husband’s not looking and you have a magazine just kind of wave or swat it at him, but don’t throw anything.
You can also spray water at him, and he’ll never touch the piano again!
If nothing here works, you can spray citrus smelling liquid on old blankets (use at least 3 layers) and place them on the piano. You can also try spraying him with the stuff if the plain water method doesn’t work. Cats **** this smell.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!
Always,

There are both active and passive alarm systems that will keep your cat off just about anything. For furniture I suggest either the **** mat or the scram mat, and I have posted links. They work. there are also motion sensors that are triggered when your cat gets on things, and give either a blast of noise or of air.
As far as the chair, you need to clean it thoroughly to remove all possible traces of urine scent. As it is leather, consult a professional. But protect the chair with either of the items I have indicated. I would get puppy training pads to put under the X-mat initially if you chose that type of protection.
